We’re thrilled to have put in a proposal to bring corals and music to SXSW this spring. We’ve put together an incredible panel that includes our board members Juli Berwald and Tiff Duong, along with our incredible violinist/composer partner in Music for the Ocean, Chad Cannon, and marine scientist who focuses on acoustics of the reef, Aran Mooney from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Here are the takeways we hope to share with the audience:
Takeaway 1: If data was enough, we wouldn’t have a climate crisis. Innovation in art leads to increased awareness and funding/giving for environmental causes.
Takeaway 2: There’s still hope! International collaborations such as that of Tela Coral and Tela Marine in Honduras are paving the way for coral solutions.
Takeaway 3: Bringing environmentalism into a concert or other art experience emotionally changes a person, leaving them more primed to take positive action.
