Senyacen is a marine biologist who identifies with both the Latina and Honduran communities. She loves the fact that within her career she is able to share her knowledge about the wonders of marine life with people and educate them on the importance of protecting our ocean’s resources
When we spoke with Senycaen about why she thinks diversity matters she said told us that biodiversity provides the foundation for ensuring balance within ecosystems which in turn supports all the services they provide. By studying biodiversity, scientists can better understand the relationships between species and how they interact with their environment. This knowledge is essential for developing effective conservation strategies to protect and preserve biodiversity and the services it provides.
Senyacen believes that the way to advance the environmental movement is to involve communities in conservation efforts, as working together is crucial to achieving conservation goals, whether short or long-term. By involving communities in conservation efforts, we can create a sense of ownership and responsibility for the natural resources in their area. Senyacen also said that it is important to engage with communities in all stages of conservation planning and implementation.
